sketchbook doo-doos

In my fantasy future, as in my personal life, touch interfaces are reviled as abominations.

EEEFFFFF -- thats some cool shit! Love the areas of rest in the first image... what were you referencing for the circular turnstile mechanisms in the bottom left sketches of the third image? Old submarines?

I don't think I was referencing anything in particular. The core theme of everything mounted on a common axis is inspired by nautical controls, but I was also thinking about the "lunules" mounted near the steering wheel in older Citroën cars. Fascinating design process chronicled here: http://www.citroenet.org.uk/miscellaneous/prn/satellites.html

Ha I love these. I'm a big fan of big chunky technology. The current "touch" tech we have is nice and practical but it's not fun to draw/design.
You'd like these cold war era phones Matt:

Hi Matt, these are wonderful, as usual! I don't know if you've ever explained these before butre these for work or pleasure? And do you regiment yourself like sya, Oh I have to draw something with a theme every day or anything like that?

Matt,

I've been surfing the net for a concept artist. It's hard to find a concept artist...........just for general 2D/3D sketch. Usually get tons of "high end firms" doing internet searches. I'm considered a "small entity". I'm just curious to see the cost for a simple 2D sketch for this rotor system. I have more detailed drawings. One of the rotor blades is "cutoff" in the patent drawings due to spacing. I did my own patent drawings as well the foot work for my patent. I'm an indepenent inventor/innovator working on a small scale prototype. Bell Helicopters and a few others have looked over my design. I do ok at simple 2D with angles, but add curves, such as a helicopter canopy, and I cannot catch the details. I'm looking for a bit more visual "lure" for lack of a better phrase. Pricing around. Thanks for your time.

Best Regards,

Holy crap! I just stumbled on your blog and am completely blown away. I also work in the games industry and it seems so rare to see somebody with your level of draftsmanship. Really inspiring! I'm going to buy both your sketchbooks! Are you in any podcasts or interviews? I'd love to find out more about your process.

I loved the last comment with some shared disinterest on the touch screen agenda ;)
