Stuff I did at the workshop at the Vancouver aquarium. Contrast is a little weird since I was working to the projector's properties and such. I had a pretty decent time, yakked at lots of folks and hopefully helped a few find ways to get to their visions.
The Vancouver Aquarium is hands-down the best one I've ever been to. Some may be bigger, but I've never seen one that treats individual species with as much dignity and intimacy as this place. Even the pet-store-ubiquitous swordtails and tetras were presented in completely naturalistic tanks, displaying their natural behaviors that make them every bit as fascinating as the wolf eels or piranhas. It is just an extremely pleasant setup all around, and each exhibit seems to be designed not to overwhelm, but to invite contemplation. It's worth making a special effort to visit if you're in the area, and if you live near Seattle, it might even be worth the drive up alone, and certainly worth the (I believe...) CN$30 admittance.

I saw these at the event, thier fantastick!
Ugh -- these are spectacular! Wish I had been there for your demo...
I actually have been to the Vancouver aquarium in the past, and I do recall it being as amazing as you describe.
Thanks, as always, for sharing.
Outstanding work man!
Hi Matthew, they look great hopefully you can keep working on the desert looking environment I like the way its looking. We had the chance to talk during the event I hope we can stay in touch I would love to model any of your concepts!!!
Beautiful works, are they based off real prehistoric animals?
Marco.
Hey Matthew,
It was Cool to meet you and talk to you for a while about Art and your motivations at Anomaly. Have a great day!
Peace,
Sean
Hi Matthew,
It was good to see you at the Anomaly event, and the pieces you produced look great! I was meaning to ask you if I can use some art from your "Cars and Rockets, Mostly" book for some 3d models for my personal portfolio, with credit given to you for your design. Let me know if this would be ok. Thanks.
These are only very loosely based on real dinosaur characters. They're meant to be fairly whimsical representations of generalized kinds of dinosaurs (or other prehistoric creatures, like placodonts, proterosuchids and aetosaurs).
As long as I'm properly credited, feel free to use any of my designs for portfolio models. Just be careful if you grab any of my stuff from, say ConceptArt.org ArenaNet art posts, since it doesn't belong to me and I'm not sure how ArenaNet treats that kind of thing.
Thanks Matthew! I'll keep you posted on my work.
Hey matt,
